Dali Progressing Culture
How do generations shift a city differently? In recent years, many have left China’s major cities for Dali, a rural town in Yunnan shaped by the Bai ethnic group and waves of migration. Jiayu, a young artist who moved from Beijing during the pandemic, reflects this cultural shift. In the documentary, she contrasts Beijing’s fast-paced efficiency with Dali’s slower rhythm with the example of the supermarket. While many leave Dali again for its inconveniences, Jiayu chooses to stay. Through her, Dali becomes a space where generations meet, and where every individual choice reshapes the culture.
